And today the news came out that there are, yep, still rumors, but these rumors have a lot of substance to them that live golf is dying. It is bleeding out money. And PIF, is going to pull back their funding of live golf.

James, when this news broke, my jaw dropped because it wasn't that long ago that there was a PGA Liv merger, and it seemed like Liv was winning. And now we get this news. Yeah. What are your thoughts,

As someone who prefers the PGA over live, I'm not gonna be dancing on Liv's graveyard, when I saw this story, and, even when the CEO came out and said it takes about five to 10 years for a business to be profitable, the issue is, is that the money that got backed is just way too much. It's basically, they bit more than they can chew and spends. I'll say it like this. PIF. They've, invested 5.3 billion and I know a lot of it went to the contracts of De Shambo and Rom and. Mickelson for over, and even Dustin Johnson for like over, if you add'em all up for like over 700 million total. But the issue is Spence even though I liked some of the things Liv did, try to make it like a more party scene, try to, do the team aspect. The issue is, is that it's just the wrong sport to be investing these big of dollars. Now, for example, if Saudi wanted to do a Saudi basketball league, you guess what? Everyone's gonna watch LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Steph Curdy. If they did do that, if they, but golf is just not that sport. Yeah, Liv people made way more money than the PGA, but guess what? Like the PGA purses are only like 22, 25 mil. These contracts in golf is basically, if you're a PGA golfer, you're a 10 99 contractor. If you don't make the cut, you don't get paid. It's kind of the same in sales. You don't make a sale, you don't get paid. they know what their, you know, value and worth is in the PGA, so they know not to really. Overestimate their value, their worth. And that's what Lib did in my eyes, is that's what they did. And now it's coming to an end and we've already seen it. Kka Hass been gone. Mm-hmm. We've seen. Saudis leagues attract big players before in other sports, mainly soccer, right? We, Christiana, Ronaldo went to the Saudi League, Kareem Zema, Namar, there's a lot of big name soccer players that did this. So to me, I, I'm trying to see why this really happened now, right? Why is it happening now? And we're not gonna get too political, but I have to imagine that with all the turmoil going on in the Middle East right now. Saudi Arabia is really focused on their money and we know how they get their money. It's from oil. And so if they can't have access to the oil right now because there's problems in the Middle East and everything's more expensive now and you're meanwhile like throwing a ton billions of dollars into this failing golf league. Yeah, it makes sense that they're like, Hey, we're probably gonna have to can this thing. It always felt inevitable that this was gonna happen. I, I will say it, it's amazing that it lasted this long and yeah, five years. I really thought that Liv was going to win for a little bit there. When the merger was announced, and it never was finalized, it seemed like Liv was going to come out on top of things. They make a move over to TNT, better broadcasting rights. I was like, okay, it's gonna start to pick up, but. Those TV ratings on TNT were terrible. We're talking about like an average of a couple of thousand for their main events. Like no one was watching this stuff. Most people probably thought it was still on the cw, I guess, but. No, it just was always destined to fail and now it's just gonna be awkward for some of these guys to go back to the PGA. A lot of them will be allowed back in some of the big champions, like we mentioned, Brooks Koepka. I believe Patrick Reed will get back in. John Rom of course will be let back in. Oh yeah.'cause he's an excellent golfer. But some of those other guys that weren't very notorious and they left and they got their bag with Liv. I wouldn't be surprised if the PJ is like, nah man, you gotta earn your card again, bro. You better go play on that Korn Ferry tour for a little bit there and earn your stripes.

But it's possible that maybe the merger happens and that gets expedited and live and PGA combined now, now that PGA's got some leverage and you know the Saudis are looking to get outta this thing. Or maybe Saudis. They stay with Liv, but maybe they scale it down significantly with a smaller schedule. And they, they let some of the players that making big contracts, let'em walk and it's just like a lot smaller of a deal. But of those three I think I'm gonna go with these hot rumors right now. And I think Liv is bleeding out, dying carcass on the floor of sports.

That's what scrambles were good for. That's what team golf is good for. I did not like this team golf that they were doing over there, and the fact that. I guess I like that they wore shorts, but a lot of the other stuff was just very gimmicky and I just wasn't a fan of it. So back to the PGA is good.

Now, overall, I think even with Liv dying, there were some good things that happened for golf because of them, like all these increased purses for people on the tour. I think that was a direct result of Liv and I think that's documented in a lot of places. We will see if that continues. Now that Liv is dying, we'll see if maybe, the investors in the PGA tour get their lick back. But even if Liv dies, they changed the game forever. And golf will forever. I'll say this, from a Rockets fan perspective, this was the matchup that the rockets definitely needed to get. I don't think they would've matched up well with any of those other teams in the top six besides the Lakers. I think they lose in the first round to all of those other teams, thunder spurs nuggets and t wolves. I think they would've lost in the first round to any of those. So they got the ideal matchup. But now you're kind of in a spot as the rockets where. If you don't win this series, we're gonna have some real conversations in Houston about. Who has the head coach need to go? Does the GM maybe need to have his seat be on fire? What are we doing with Shin Goon and Amin Thompson and all these guys that you've been building this core round, if you can't even get out the first round against an injury riddled Lakers team. So it, even though, mm-hmm. This is the favorable matchup. There is a lot at stakes still for the rockets. Mm-hmm. And honestly, they might not have had this much at stake if they did go up against a team like the Nuggets in the first round. They could have fallen back on the fact that. Hey, we lost our starting point guard before the season. Our sixth man off the bench hurt his ankle and is out for the year as well. Dorian Finney Smith is hot garbage, and so you're looking at a ton of salary for the rockets that that's not in their rotation right now and right. It felt like a lost year for a lot of the year. You would've had that excuse if you lose in five or six games To the nuggets, to the Spurs, to the thunder. Right? Right. But against this Lakers team, you have to win. Now you have to get outta this first round. There's no excuse right. With this amount of talent that you have. A men, Thompson Jabari Smith, of course, Kevin Durant, Al Prince Chingo, there's no excuse for this Rockets team to lose to this Lakers team unless Luca and Austin Reeves magically come back. Way sooner than anticipated. But again, I don't think you can expect them back before game four at the absolute earliest, any earlier than that It would be shocking.

Without Anthony Edwards beat you in one of the all time worst chokes in NBA history. Oh yeah. This Rockets team is susceptible to having some embarrassing moments. So even though I was excited for this, this Lakers draw, there's a part of me that is terrified of the possibility of the rockets embarrassing themselves in this series.
